Welcome to a very special organization! NAMI Southern Arizona is an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). NAMI has hundreds of affiliates in all 50 states. We are a non-profit, grassroots organization providing no-cost advocacy, education, and support to all those affected by mental illnesses. Since 1983, NAMI of Southern Arizona has been helping individuals with mental illness and their families. Many of our programs, services and literature are also available in Spanish.
Mental illnesses affect the brain’s ability to function normally. You have heard the terms - depression, bipolar disorder, panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and schizophrenia. These mental disorders are like any other medical condition; they are common AND treatable. Many of our members, staff and volunteers of NAMI Southern Arizona are individuals who have experience with mental illness because we have a loved one with a diagnosis or one ourselves.
If you or a loved one is struggling with a mental illness, remember - you are not alone.
NAMI Southern Arizona devotes its efforts to:
Individuals with mental illness, their family members and the public. NAMI of Southern Arizona's ongoing goals are to overcome the ignorance, misinformation, misconceptions and apathy that prevent true understanding and meaningful help from reaching persons with serious mental illness.
For services to which individuals with a mental illness may be entitled and for legislation and funding of programs that will ensure quality community care, housing and services for people with mental illness.
Individually and in group meetings for all those affected by mental illness.
