As any of you who have frequented the NAMI office know, space is extremely cramped for so many people and in desperate need of some TLC. Since we own the building and cannot afford a bigger space, we need to utilize existing space optimally and make our work environment more pleasant for staff, volunteers and clients.
We recently received a small grant from TEP to help us get started on the improvements. We have been reaching out to businesses in the community for donations of materials and labor with a fair amount of success. To date we have received over $3,000 for our renovations and thousands in donated materials and labor.
The following businesses are already supporting us in this effort with: temporary storage during construction, toilets, light fixtures and LED bulbs, energy efficient windows, electrical and plumbing work, colored concrete, discounts and new bookcases for our library.
WE NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET!
We have set a fundraising goal of $10,000 to complete this project! We would appreciate any donation of skilled labor, volunteers, materials or cash to help us make our improvements a reality!
Any donated materials and/or skilled labor would be such a help! If you or anyone you know could help in this way please contact Christina Bickemann at (520) 622-5582 or email email@example.com
Our Progress Thus Far
Our goals are to improve office aesthetics, storage and morale with a focus on energy and water efficiency and accessibility. The project started on January 7th and has been steadily moving forward.
Bathrooms– old bathtub and fixtures have been removed, new toilets, sinks/vanity and storage cabinet and new tile floor have been installed. Phase 2 is to replace the door with a wider door for accessibility, add a utility sink, a partition wall and install grab bars for wheelchair accessibility, a new window and repair and paint walls and ceiling.
Conference room and 2 adjacent back offices– the suspended ceiling has been removed, structural improvements and colored concrete floors have been poured. Electrical work and wiring is complete and we hope by the end of February we will have completed the sheet rock work and painting, allowing us to move everything back in. Colored concrete and electrical work was donated and we had the help of several volunteers.
Heating and Cooling – duct-work was extended into the conference room to allow for heating and cooling off the main system (formerly only a small AC unit and no heat). Repairs have been made to system throughout the office. Energy efficient Lighting–donated canister lights and ceiling fan bracket have been installed, the trim and fan will be installed once sheet rock is installed and painted. Florescent bulbs throughout the office will be replaced with LED’s. Energy efficient Windows – donated for the entire office to replace old single pane windows, plus 2 added to conference room and adjacent office that were formerly windowless.
Phase 2:We will be tiling the last two carpeted offices and patching and painting all offices and the lobby. We hope to complete the project by the end of March. We are currently in need of volunteers with painting skills to help us paint, inside and out. We are also looking for a landscape company and/or volunteers to clean up and improve the front landscaping and add gutters, swales and low-water use plants for rainwater harvesting.
Still need new or gently used solid wood (oak preferred) storage cabinets and bookcases in various sizes and nice desks.
